The Masquerade

The Masquerade is an epic fantasy series centered on Baru Cormorant, a young woman from a conquered island who joins the Empire of Masks, the force that destroyed her culture. Baru vows to dismantle the Empire from within, sacrificing everything to liberate her people.

Book one sees Baru as an Imperial agent sent to Aurdwynn, a country on the brink of rebellion, where she navigates treacherous alliances and faces impossible choices to achieve her goals. The series follows her journey as she rises to become a secret lord, fighting to shatter the Masquerade.

Haunted by betrayal and a fragmented mind, Baru seeks to trigger a war that will bring the Empire down but faces the threat of losing herself in the process as she struggles to distinguish between justice and revenge. Later, armed with the potential to destroy the Empire, Baru faces the moral dilemma of wielding a weapon that cannot separate the innocent from the guilty as enemies close in from all sides.
