About This Series

“Five centuries of peace shatter across a matriarchal world when girls inexplicably stop being born — and the generation that may be the last must decide what their civilization is worth saving.”

The Five Queendoms have maintained peace for five hundred years through the careful balance of warrior Scorpica, magical Arca, and three sister nations. When a generation passes without a single girl born across all five queendoms, the Drought of Girls begins — destabilizing alliances, igniting desperate political maneuvering, and forcing every ruler to confront the limits of their power. The series follows queens, healers, sorcerers, and the 'lastborn girls' themselves across an expansive multi-perspective epic.

There is no single protagonist — the series is a true ensemble, told from the perspectives of queens, healers, warriors, and the lastborn girls who carry the weight of their nations' hopes. The women are vividly distinct: some ruthless, some compassionate, some both.

Across three books, the series traces the full arc from the Drought's first signs to its catastrophic political and personal consequences — war, betrayal, dark magic, and unlikely alliances. A near-immortal sorceress operates from the shadows, a queen risks everything on forbidden magic, and a warrior queen rises from childbirth to fight for her throne and her nation's survival.

The inverted gender dynamics — men as the domestic and subservient class — are handled with matter-of-fact subtlety that provokes genuine reflection rather than didacticism.
Thoughtful character development across a large cast, with unexpected plot twists that reviewers compare to Robin Hobb.
The Drought of Girls premise is a genuinely fresh hook that sustains tension across multiple books.

Robin Hobb's character-driven epic fantasy and Madeline Miller's mythic retellings — this sits comfortably beside both.
Multi-POV feminist epic fantasy with political intrigue, dark magic, and matriarchal worldbuilding.
Greer Macallister's historical fiction translated into secondary-world fantasy scale.

•The large cast and multi-generational scope mean the pacing is slower and more deliberate than action-driven epic fantasy.
•The treatment of men as wholly subservient is intentional but may be uncomfortable for some readers, as it inverts rather than dismantles hierarchical dynamics.
•Only book 1 has significant review data in this database; the series runs to three books.

⚖️The Verdict

A sweeping matriarchal epic fantasy that uses the framework of a 'what if women ruled' world to explore power, desperation, and what it costs to preserve a civilization.
