Urth: Book of the New Sun

Urth: Book of the New Sun follows Severian, a torturer exiled from his guild after showing mercy to a victim. Forced to leave his home, he journeys across the world of Urth. Severian carries with him Terminus Est, a fabled executioner's sword, and the Claw of the Conciliator, a gem of extraterrestrial power.

During his travels, Severian faces both allies and enemies, and must learn to survive outside the confines of the torturer's guild. His exile leads him to Thrax, the city of Windowless Rooms, where he is meant to serve as Lictor, an executioner and torturer. Instead, he flees into the mountains encountering strange beings and dangerous situations. Severian's journey continues, taking him further across Urth towards an unknown destiny that he cannot ignore.
